On March 5, 2021, the first session of the Public Council under the Minister of Environment took place.

The Public Council was formed by the order of the Minister of Environment, Romanos Petrosyan, in order to fully involve civil society in the process of solving environmental problems and implementing reforms.

MLRI is also a member of the Public Council of the RA Ministry of Environment, among other non-governmental organizations, media agencies and individual environmentalists.

According to the Minister, the composition of the council has been chosen in such a way as to maximise the inclusion of sectoral specialists and ensure wide coverage.

The members of the Council have a large toolbox of powers, and if they exercise it they will be able to implement the advisory mandate given to them on burning questions in the sector, prominent issues and matters arising from force majeure situations.

During the meeting, the agenda of the Council was discussed and sectoral working groups were created:

1 ․ Legislative Reform Working Group,

2 ․ Eco-education Awareness Working Group,

3 ․ Sectoral working groups corresponding to the 5 components of the environment (soil, water, atmosphere, subsoil, flora and fauna).

The members of the Council expressed their readiness to invest their direct efforts and potential to ensure the effectiveness of the Council’s work.

Meetings with the Minister will be held on a monthly basis.
