The Mining Legislation Reform Institute (MLRI) is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to improving the legal framework that governs metal mining in Armenia. Our mission is to promote responsible, transparent, and sustainable mining practices by clarifying the legal obligations of mining companies and ensuring those obligations are enforceable.

Originally established in 2014 as part of the Responsible Mining Center at the American University of Armenia, MLRI became an independent entity in 2019. Since then, we have been working to align Armenia’s mining legislation with international standards, advance environmental protection, and support informed public participation in decision-making.

Our work is made possible through the support of the Tufenkian Foundation, and we collaborate closely with civil society, legal experts, and public institutions to drive meaningful legislative change.

We believe that responsible mining is not only possible but essential — and that the law must lead the way.
