On April 16-17, the American University of Armenia (AUA) Center for Responsible Mining (CRM) conducted a two-day policy dialog conference with over 30 civil society members and government representatives. Carl Ulbricht, MLRI's Research Manager, attended the event and engaged in discussions on a number of themes, including health and safety at work in the mining sector, tailings dam safety, rehabilitation of abandoned mine sites and issues concerning the reprocessing of existing tailings. The Government of Armenia is currently developing a new strategy for the mining sector, and it is important for civil society to play an active and influential role in shaping the policy.
